Helena honors the 2023 Governor’s Youth Hunting Story Contest winners
Helena, Montana – On Monday, January 9, 2024, Governor Greg Gianforte presented awards to the winners of the 2023 Governor’s Youth Hunting Story Contest.
In 2022, the governor established the Youth Hunting Story Contest for young Montanans, aged 10 to 17.
The contest required resident youth hunters to submit a photo and a narrative of up to 500 words about their hunt.
They received over 400 submissions this year.
The ten victors were given various gifts to aid them in their upcoming hunting endeavors and were invited to the Montana State Capitol on Monday.
“I submitted a story about a hunting experience we had on the Big Horn River. It was a duck hunting trip and we got a lot of ducks and it was fun, said William Sheehan, one of the contest winners.
“My teacher told me about this and I was like I should write one just to see and so I started writing my story,” said Inslee Moran, one of the contest winners.
