Roof Deployment Project gives a new roof to a veteran in Montana

Hardin, Montana – Martin Thompson and his spouse Carol Maddox called Monday morning “unreal” because they were having a free installation of their new roof.
“It brings tears to my eyes because I can’t believe this is happening to us,” Maddox said.
Their already “ancient” roof was completely wrecked by a powerful storm that tore a huge hole in their ceiling in the early summer.
Maddox detailed what happened during the storm and showed the damage in their Hardin home’s rear room. “The ceiling just came down, it was pouring and this (the floor) was all soaked. We had to vacuum it all up,” she said.
Despite their fears, Thompson and Maddox had to get their siding and roof repaired because they were in dire need of it. To obtain a quote, they commenced collaborating with Donahue Roofing & Siding.
“The entire bid was $42,000 in damage to the house,” Thompson said.
Owner of Donahue Roofing Mitch Donahue recently became aware of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a national initiative that provides soldiers in need with roofing materials.
Donahue recalled the program when assisting Thompson and Maddox, who were strapped for cash, and posed a crucial query to Thompson.
“I asked him, ‘You don’t happen to be a military vet?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, as a matter of fact, I served in the army,'” Donahue said. “A day later they called me back and said (Thompson) qualified, and they were going to give him a free roof.”
Thompson was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army several decades ago.
Donahue hopes to carry on providing a free roof to a soldier year with the support of Purple Heart Homes and the Roof Deployment Project.
“They’ve served their country and now they just need a little help, and we’re happy to provide that for them,” Donahue said.
Maddox and Thompson expressed their sincere gratitude to all those who helped them obtain this new roof.
“It still seems like a dream,” Thompson said.
