Montana hunter kills charging grizzly bear

Montana – According to Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, on Saturday, a hunter in the Gravelly Range shot and killed a grizzly bear at close range.

In self-defense, the grizzly charged the hunter who shot and killed the bear, according to an FWP press release. The hunter escaped unharmed.

The following day, FWP personnel confirmed the bear’s death by going to the scene. It was a female grizzly bear with no prior conflicts, according to the announcement.

“The bear was in good body condition and appeared to be digging a den near where the encounter took place,” FWP stated in the release.
