Open house for the First Avenue North Project is held by the Montana Department of Transportation

Billings, Montana – The Department of Transportation held an open house on Wednesday evening to present their proposed changes to the First Avenue North Project.
The project will reconstruct roughly two miles of 1st Ave north from Division to North 9th, according to MDT and an engineering design consultant. New curbs and gutters, ADA-compliant walkways, and street lighting are just a few of the upgrades.
The reconstruction process is a complicated project with numerous moving parts, according to MDT Project Manager Thaddeus Lesnik, which is why they chose to divide construction into several stages.
“That’s the nice thing about having this project broken into three different projects. there’s a west segment, a middle segment, and an east segment that the construction is not going to shut down the entire corridor for an extended period of time all in one summer,” said Lesnik.
Although the precise length of the construction period is yet unknown, according to Lesnik, the first phase of work will begin in 2027.
