The Haystack Fire prompted new pre-evacuation alert

Jefferson County, Montana – The Haystack Fire, which is burning between Butte and Boulder, has prompted a new pre-evacuation alert.

Pre-evacuation notices have been issued by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for the following locations. Residents in these regions should plan to evacuate as soon as possible: South of the Boulder River and Cattle Drive west of Highway 69, North of and including Boulder Hot Springs, Depot Hill Road area north of I-15, Silver Bell Road area, Boomerang Gulch.

“The fire has spotted northeast of Elder Creek, past the Gatlin Gulch fire from earlier this summer,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

If you feel insecure or believe you will require more time to evacuate, you should do so right away. Please contact 1-800-272-6668 if you need emergency shelter.

Please do not contact 911 for information unless it is an emergency.
