Billings, Montana – More than 1,500 Montana students are fed every year through Cole’s Pantry Inc. organization.

A student representative on the board of Cole’s Pantry Inc., Allison Wipf, says the organization began with one child’s compassion and care for others.

Cole Pelican was a young boy who took food from his pantry and gave it to his friends. He was concerned that his friends aren’t getting enough food. Cole passed away in 2009.

In order to honor her brother, Cole’s sister Fallon created the organization in 2010. In their first year, Cole’s Pantry Inc. was feeding eleven children from eight families in rural communities. Since then they have expanded to 17 different communities and 22 schools across the state.

The program is fully operated by year-round donations of food and money, along with annual fundraisers.

Over 11,000 Montana resident are facing hunger. 3,500 of those people are children, according to Feeding America.
