Fire caused by lightning strike extinguished in Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone County, Montana – First fire this season inside the Yellowstone National Park was sparked by a lightning strike.

Officials say the Elk Creek Fire started on Thursday night at a ridge south of Blacktail Drive and west of Petrified Tree in the northern area of the park and was 0.1 acres in size.

It was extinguished quickly by fire crews.

Park officials say that the condition in the park is monitored by staff and may be put under restrictions in near future.
