Human remains found in 2019 have been identified

Stillwater County, Montana – The Stillwater County Sheriff’s Office discovered unidentified human remains in a wilderness location close to West Rosebud Lake in November 2019.
The remains of Michael Moler were identified following a thorough investigation with the help of the State of Montana Medical Examiner’s Office, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), and Othram Inc.
Oram was able to identify the remains’ ancestry DNA using forensic genetic genealogy and forensic grade genome sequencing, and confirmatory DNA testing established that the remains belonged to Michael Moler, a male from Midland, Texas, who was 63 years old. The family of Moler has been informed.
Even though no wrongdoing is suspected, the inquiry into the circumstances of Mr. Moler’s death is still underway.
