Huntley Project Takes 3rd at State Basketball
In a tight game on Saturday afternoon, the Huntley Project boys’ basketball team earned third place after fighting their way into the consolation final following a heartbreaking loss against Lodge Grass.
In their first state game, the Red Devils defeated Fairfield 60-52. They went on to the loss against Lodge Grass, which put them in the consolation bracket. There they faced Shelby, and won by five points, 57-52. They met Thompson Falls in the consolation final, and won by a score of 44-37.
Their journey to the state tournament included winning the District 4B championship by defeating Columbus in overtime in a nail-biter, with a final score of 45-42. They moved on to the Divisional tournament where they defeated Lodge Grass handily by a score of 75-60. A high free-throw percentage helped the Red Devils to win against the team that ended up winning the state championship. Huntley went on to take second in the Southern B Divisional Championship, losing to Manhattan by the slim margin of 43-39.
In addition to a great season for the team, three individual players were named to the 1st Team All-Conference and All-State. Noah Bouchard, Tim Rose, and Jake Fox were all recognized for their outstanding senior seasons. Additionally, Shepherd’s Malachi Warneke was named to the 2nd Team All-Conference.
