Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel to remain closed for winter 2022-2023

Yellowstone National Park, Montana – The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel will be closed from December 2022 through March 2023 during the winter season, according to a statement released by Yellowstone National Park (YNP) on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022.

The hotel’s immediate closure was caused by damage to the wastewater infrastructure caused by record flooding in June. In a news release, YNP stated that the hotel would not be serving food and would not be accepting overnight guests.

The hotel’s gift shop, coffee shop, lobby, and ski shop will stay open, and there will be regularly scheduled tours and snowcoach service available between Mammoth Hot Springs, Old Faithful, and other well-known spots, according to YNP.

Following a sewer line rupture brought on by the flooding in June, a new wastewater treatment system is being constructed to service the Mammoth area. However, according to YNP, the current temporary system is not prepared to handle hotel operations during the winter.

In order for the hotel to reopen in the spring of 2023, YNP hopes that the new system will be finished in time.
